Entertaiment
The ubiquity of entertainment and the ease of creating and reworking familiar forms across media has made it an important element of modern life. The definition of what constitutes entertainment continues to evolve. Activities once associated with hunting or war have become spectator sports. What may seem cruel or extreme to one person may be perceived as highbrow or method of attaining perception or growth by another.
Some stories – such as the Persian professional storytelling tradition of Scheherazade – have been retold many times in different mediums: composers Rimsky-Korsakov, Ravel and Szymanowski gave orchestral works to the story; director Pasolini created a film; and innovative video games are based on it.
